IES Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to assemble my electric bike?

Our bikes are shipped partially assembled, with minimum setup required by you. The owners manual provides detailed instructions for each model. These manuals are also provided in PDF format on this site and can be found by clicking the 'Manuals' link at the top of this page.

Do I need a license?

A license, registration and vehicle insurance are not required. Riders must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

Do I need to pedal an electric bike?

Pedaling is not required on the Quicksilver, Shark, Intrepid or the Shadow models. Pedaling will increase the maximum speed and total distance which can be traveled on one charge. The bikes can be operated under pure power, pedaling or a combination of power and pedaling (PAS or power assist mode)

The Colt requires a minimum of pedaling for the motor to be activated. After the motor has been activated, minimal pedaling will allow continuous operation under battery operated power.

How fast will it go?

The speed will vary based on the weight of the rider and the type of terrain travelled. Depending on the model you purchase, the average maximum speed will be approximately 12-17 MPH.

What is the range of the IES electric bikes?

The range will vary depending on the weight of the rider, model chosen and type of terrain. As a guideline, you can expect to travel between 20 and 40 miles on a single charge under pure power only. Your total range will increase if you pedal.

What do I do if my bike needs repairs or maintenance?

If you encounter problems with assembly or in operating your electric cycle, call our service department at (toll free) 1-866-726-6856 (7:00 PM - 6:00 PM EST, Monday through Friday, except holidays) for assistance. A qualified bike technical representative will respond.  You may also consult the owners manual supplied with the bike which will guide you through basic maintenance and repairs.  Owners manuals are also available for viewing on our website under Manuals.

What do I do if I get a flat tire?

Bicycle shops easily and quickly repair most flat tires on electric bicycles.

Will any charger work?

It is important to use only the charger supplied with your battery pack purchased through IES. Using the wrong charger may create a fire or safety hazard.

What payment forms do you accept?

We accept payment by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, check or money order.

Is it safe to use my credit card on your site?

We use a secure web order form from Verisign to protect our customers from theft and fraud.

Is there sales tax on electric bicycles?

There is no sales tax except for a 6% sale tax when shipped to the state of New Jersey.

How do I place an order?

Orders are accepted by mail, fax, phone or online through the internet.

How will my bike be shipped?

All bikes are shipped by UPS and are insured. A shipping and handling fee is added to your order upon checkout.

What is your refund policy?

Your order may be cancelled up to 48 hours prior to your confirmed shipping date from our warehouse by calling 1-201-605-0876. You must provide the order number given to you at time of purchase. Purchases paid by check or money order are refunded within 10 working days from date of cancellation; refunds on credit card purchases are usually credited to your account within 24 hours of cancellation and/or return of merchandise.

Is my information shared?

All transactions and inquiries through IES are confidential. We do not share our customer information with outside companies.
