IES Electric Bikes
-
Selected models of IES electric bikes are equipped with keyed ignition, locked battery, UL approved charger, horn or bell and rear view mirrors.
-
Our bikes run on silent, non-polluting electric motors, normal pedal power, or a combination of both methods.
-
All of our bikes have battery level indicators and can be fully charged in 4 to 8 hours.
Assembly
Our bikes are shipped partially assembled, with minimum setup required by you. The owners manual provides detailed instructions for each model. These manuals are also provided in PDF format on this site and can be found by clicking the 'Manuals' link at the top of this page.
For your convenience, a tool kit containing all required tools for assembly of your IES bike is included in each shipment.

Batteries
-
It is recommended that whether you use your bike on a regular basis or not, you charge your battery a minimum of once every two months.
-
You should recharge your battery after every use, even if you only ride a short distance. This will increase the life of the battery, and also increase the number of times the battery may be recharged.
-
The battery does not need to be removed from your electric bike to be recharged.
-
The battery may be recharged approximately 300 times before it will need to be replaced. Additional batteries may be purchased from IES.
-
IES bikes use either sealed lead acid or nickel metal hydride batteries. Sealed lead acid batteries are similar to those use in automobiles. They are inexpensive to purchase and operate, resistant to damage, easily recycled not especially toxic. Nickel metal hydride batteries are a variation of what you can find in most lap tops and cell phones. They are lightweight, recharge quickly, are easily recycled and low in toxicity.
Extra Batteries
Some of our customers have elected for their convenience to purchase additional batteries. Although it is not necessary, should you decide you would like an extra battery you may order one through IES.
Shipping Information
All IES products are shipped in special designed shipping cartons to ensure safe delivery from our order complex in Secaucus, New Jersey.
Laws relating to electric bikes
-
Electric bikes are classified as bicycles by the federal government, provided that the bike has a motor of less than 750 watts, a top speed under power of less than 20 mph, and is equipped with functioning pedals. All IES bikes meet these criteria. Electric bikes do not require a license or registration or insurance and are regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). For comparison purposes, cars, motorcycles and mopeds are regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT).
-
All bicycle laws also apply to electric bicycles, which can be ridden on bike paths and any roadway open to bicycles. Riders must conform to local traffic laws which apply to cars.
-
IES recommends you check with state and local laws concerning bicycles (e.g. wearing a helmet is required in some states) before using your electric bike.
